Tatami Therapy

Imagine a group of children and teenagers that are involved in sports and being entertained as they learn self control, organization, focusing and social skills. This group is a part of a very effective program for students with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) which has been developed by Tatami Therapy.

Tatami Therapy is  offered to the youth and adolescent with behavioural,  attention deficit and learning problems. The aim is  to help them to improve in some of these aspects.
On a tatami (carpet)), the student plays and interacts with others while learning social skills that will benefit them in their daily activities.

Tatami Therapy with an avant grade  methodology and with continuous development, has three key factors for the success of the program: tatami, the teaching staff and the education system.

Tatami is a series of mats where the students participate in their activities, in bare feet. They will have no fear of falling and hurting themselves. The tatami  makes possible the development of multiple abilities such as  lateralization and psycho motor coordination, team games or where relaxation exercises can be performed . Beginning with the first session, tatami therapy  prepares the student  to participate in a pleasant atmosphere of playful activities that will foster abilities and skills towards success  in the program.

The teaching staff  is comprised of health and education professionals  who have formed the methodology of Tatami Therapy. Each staff member is sensitive to the need  of each of the student. At the beginning of the program, the staff assess the students needs and decide the  proper professional intervention that is required. The role of the teacher could be – a leader, a companion or a therapist – this allows each session to be individual,  constructive and successful.

The Education  System represents the third key point of the success of the Tatami Program Therapy.  Each student participates in a  motivational system identifying the goals that they would like to achieve. These goals can be individual, with a partner or with the team
Tatami Therapy also uses right brain learning activities and behaviour modification techniques that have been effective in previous studies.
